Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture: Masters of the First Generation”

 

 
In this exhibition Chapungu pays tribute to 20 masters of the First Generation of  Zimbabwean Stone Sculptors. These artists are:

Ephraim Chaurika,  born 1940
Enos Gunja, born 1936
Makina Kameya, born 1920 died 1988
Wazi Maicolo, born 1936 died 1987
Josia Manzi, born 1953
Damian Manuhwa, born 1952 died 2007
Joram Mariga , born 1927 died 2000
Bernard Matemera, born 1946 died 2002
Lemon Moses, born 1921 died 1992
Boira Mteki , born 1946 died 1999
Sylvester Mubayi, born  1942
Nicholas Mukomberanwa, born 1940 died 2002
Henry Munyaradzi, born  1931 died 1998
Joseph Ndandarika, born 1956 died 1991
Taylor Nkomo , born 1953
Luizi Purumero, born 1929 died 1983
Bernard Takawira, born 1948 died 1997
John Takawira, born 1938 died 1989


The exhibit is comprised of 65 sculptures. The pieces date back as early as 1966 and they range from 1foot to 11feet tall and weight from 20 pounds to 3 tons

This exhibit pays tribute to the Tengenenge sculpture community and comprises of 63 pieces with heights varying from 1 foot to 5 feet. and weights varying from 20 pounds to 1 ton.
